Landscaping and Lawn Care in Porter, IN
Green Oasis Landscaping installs mulch and decorative rock in Porter, IN, a small town hard against the Indiana Dunes National Park. Estimates are free, and Porter is a short run from our base in Valparaiso.
Porter is a small, established town of older homes and wooded lots, with pine and oak over many of the yards and the Indiana Dunes running along its northern edge. A lot of the property here was landscaped once, years ago, and then left alone. Shrubs have grown into the siding, bed edges have crept into the lawn and the mulch has long since turned to dust.
This is Dunes ground, which means sand. Water passes straight through, so a bed that looks damp on top can be dry six inches down, and mulch that would last a season on clay thins out much sooner. Plants that need steady moisture struggle, and the ones that cope with sand and a bit of shade do well. We plan depth and plant choices around that, and we tell you when a bed will need more water than you were counting on.
Bed work in Porter has two good windows. The first is early spring, when old needle litter and winter debris come out and the edge gets re cut before new material goes down. The second is mid to late fall, after the oaks are done dropping leaf, when beds can be cleaned out and topped up before the ground freezes. Mulch on sand breaks down faster, so most beds here want a top up every year.
Our Porter work is mulch and rock. We clear the bed, cut a spade edge between the bed and the turf, lay mulch to an even depth and keep it off trunks and siding. Where a roof dumps onto a bed or the slope sheds water, decorative rock or river stone over fabric holds better than mulch does. Beds get shaped around walks and downspouts and the hard surfaces are blown clean when we finish.
Porter sits between Burns Harbor to the west and Chesterton to the east along US-20, a short run from our base in Valparaiso. That keeps a bed job on the regular route, with no long trip charged to a small project.
Call or text 219-299-4132 on a weekday between 7 in the morning and 5 in the afternoon. We walk the beds with you, point out which ones are worth saving and which need a rebuild, and put the price in writing first. A photo of the front of the house is enough for a first read by text.
